On 28th of may 2018 a draft policy was issued by the Delhi Govt with sweeping changes in the charges levied by private hospitals in the Delhi,including a controversial proposition for a partial bill waiver if a patient dies within a day of being taken to a hospital emergency. If the patient dies within 6 hrs being taken to a hospital emergency 50% of the cost of the treatment will be waived and if the patient dies within 24 hrs 20% of the total bill will be reimbursed. This draft also proposed that the doctors of the private hospitals should suggest drugs from the NLEM (National list of essential medicines)list,However in some cases if non-NLEM drugs are needed to be given then the patient should be consulted before administering drugs.
