Discounts on Death
On 28th of may 2018 a draft policy was issued by the Delhi Govt with sweeping changes in the charges levied by private hospitals in the Delhi, including a controversial proposition for a partial bill waiver if a patient dies within a day of being taken to a hospital emergency.
If the patient dies within 6 hrs being taken to a hospital emergency 50% of the cost of the treatment will be waived and if the patient dies within 24 hrs 20% of the total bill will be reimbursed.
This draft also proposed that the doctors of the private hospitals should suggest drugs from the NLEM (National list of essential medicines)list,However in some cases if non-NLEM drugs are needed to be given then the patient should be consulted before administering drugs.
This move by the Delhi govt was commendable. But it was not simple as it sounds. Finally a committee was made following the meetings with the health minister of Delhi Satyendra Kumar Jain and various professionals and regulatory organizations representing doctors at medical institutions across Delhi.
The question is why we are raising this topic today in 2019.
The answer is why not.We know we are a bit late but we still have something to say.
Do us a favour by asking these questions to yourself

1.Do this proposal should be limited to Delhi?
2.IF a proposal like this can be brought up in Delhi why cannot it be rolled out across the nation?

You know what.We are lazy,we don't give a heed to something unless that has happened to us.We suddenly start caring for all those issues once we face the reality.Think of that situation when a poor family had to pay the huge bill of their dead patients.Whether it be in Delhi or in any part of the country. The pain is same. But we don't care why because we don't know them. Infact we skip these things just like we skip the ad on the You tube. But believe us every next family in the country is facing this Or should i say each one of us may face this kind of situation at some point of time in our life.
THEGO-GOHOUSE PERSPECTIVE
We understand that a policy like this is tough to be implemented across the nation. Some might say who is gonna pay for the infrastructures of these big hospitals.Instead of this, medical policy should be made mandatory for every Indian citizen. There are plenty of questions. The conclusion is,a policy like this should be brought up across the nation.
