Pay back the money spent on the statues:SC to Mayawati

Since our childhood we have seen erecting statues of people posthumously. From Mahatma Gandhi to Atal Bihari Vajpayee their statues were build posthumously and that too because they did amazing works for the welfare of India. On the other hand there are few people who erect their statues even after being alive and that too with the money of people.
The one among them is Mayawati the leader of Bahujan samaj party(BSP).While she was the chief minister of uttar pradesh during 2007-12,she erected over 40 statues, icluding 6 of her own.Acoording to an estimate over Rs2600 crore of exchequer was spent to build memorials and statues in Lucknow, noida and some other place in uttar pradesh.
The SC on 1st of february said that the money spent by the former chief minister of uttar pradesh should be reimbursed to the state exchequer.
The remarks were made by a bench hearing a petition filed by an advocate who had contended that public money cannot be utilized for creating own statues and for propagating the political party.
''We are of the tentative view that mayawati has to deposit the public money spent on her statues and party symbol to the state exchequer ''a bench headed by chief justice Ranjan gogoi.
The bench posted the matter for final hearing on April 2.

THEGO-GOHOUSE PERSPECTIVE
A state like uttar pradesh which has lot to do to fulfill the basic needs of the people cannot afford an investment like this.Thogh that is a debatable topic but still roti, kapra and makan are the primary things. We hope the SC will do the right judgement.

  1. Nice observation buddy. But I am sure few people with start arguing this with Statue of Unity. But I suggest u not to get involve into it. It's better to give some money to the fools instead of knowledge. Liked your post looking forward to see more meaningfull literature.
